FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS.

General Information.

What does JKH manufacture and supply?

JKH designs, manufactures and delivers specialist precast concrete drainage solutions—including headwalls, inspection chambers, gratings/steelwork and memorial bases—with both standard and bespoke options produced in-house.

How fast can JKH deliver stock items, and do you offer offloading?

Nationwide delivery of stock items is typically 1–2 weeks, supported by our FORS Silver-accredited fleet, with crane/forklift offloading support available on request. For smaller stock items dispatched via pallet courier, delivery is typically 2–3 days from order.

Do your precast products support sustainability goals?

Yes. ECO 1 is JKH’s standard low-carbon concrete blend (optional ECO 1 ULTRA), reducing cement by 46–70% and CO₂e by 12–49%, while remaining fully compliant with BS 8500-2:2023.

Where can specifiers find third-party certificates and detailed product data?

Certificates (e.g., BS EN 1090, BS EN 15258, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, FORS Silver) Can be found in our Knowledge Hub to download

Regulatory Compliance.

Which standards underpin JKH’s UKCA-marked precast products?

JKH’s UKCA marking is supported by compliance with BS EN 1090 (steelwork execution) and BS EN 15258:2008 (precast concrete retaining wall elements), per the UK Construction Products Regulations.

Can you provide proof of UKCA conformity?

Yes. JKH holds UKCA Certificate No. 0086 CPR 650448 (BSI Approved Body 0086) for precast concrete products aligned to BS EN 15258:2008.

Do you offer CARES-accredited reinforcement?

Yes: When specified, JKH can supply precast solutions using CARES-accredited reinforcement for enhanced traceability and assurance in safety-critical applications.

Sustainability.

What is ECO 1 and how does it lower embodied carbon?

ECO 1 is JKH’s proprietary low-carbon concrete blend that reduces cement content by ≈46% (and ECO 1 ULTRA by ≈70%), typically saving 12–49% CO₂e vs. traditional CEM I, while maintaining CEM I-equivalent performance.

Is ECO 1 suitable for aggressive exposure classes?

Yes—ECO 1 and ECO 1 ULTRA are fully compliant with BS 8500-2:2023 and achieve Design Chemical Class 4 and Design Sulphate Class 4 for durability in aggressive environments.

Is ECO 1 standard across your range?

ECO 1 is the standard mix for 100% of JKH products; ECO 1 ULTRA is available on request for further carbon reductions.

How does ECO 1 support sector sustainability targets?

ECO 1 helps project teams reduce embodied carbon without compromising strength (typical >75 N/mm² at 28 days)—supporting corporate and public-sector net-zero frameworks.

Products - Headwalls.

What do headwalls do in a drainage system?

Headwalls protect outfalls and watercourse banks by reducing erosion/scour at discharge points and safeguarding pipework from hydraulic damage—critical for long-term drainage performance.

Which headwall series do you offer and for what pipe sizes?

JKH provides 300, 600, 1000, 2000, 2800 series plus GRC and specialised variants (e.g., Water Control Headwall), accommodating pipes up to Ø100–2000mm depending on model

Can you factory-fit grates, handrails and flow controls?

Yes—steel gratings, handrails, flap valves, penstocks and other flow control devices can be factory-fitted; coloured concrete and powder-coated steelwork are available for sensitive sites

Do you provide installation guidance and BIM/CAD files?

Product pages include installation advice, and designers can register for the design portal to access extensive BIM/CAD technical drawings.

What are the advantages of Precast vs insitu pour?

Off-site manufactured precast headwalls accelerate installation, cut labour, aid environmental compliance, and reduce contamination risk—ideal for large developments and civil engineering works.

Products - Inspection Chambers.

When are inspection chambers used?

Chambers are typically installed at changes of direction, as rodding points, and for lateral connections at depth; they can also tumble flow on steep sites.

What chamber types are available?

JKH manufactures a range of precast chambers, including V Chambers (square design up to D400 loading) and soakaway chambers up to 14,400 L, alongside GRC and Big J variants.

What are the benefits of the V Chamber vs. circular?

The V Chamber’s square geometry preserves structural integrity with large openings, reduces joint sealing length, speeds two-piece installation to 3 m depth, and minimises excavation/backfill.

Products - Gratings & Steelwork.

Which steelwork products do you supply?

Standard and special gratings (galvanised/stainless) including bespoke catwalks and access hatches, handrails, aluminium stoplogs assemblies, vermin gates (hinged, for Ø 60–300mm pipes), and orifice plates.

Are steel fabrications certified?

Steelwork is manufactured under BS EN 1090, supporting UKCA compliance for structural steel items.

Can you supply coloured steelwork and coloured concrete to blend with surroundings?

Yes—powder-coated steelwork is available in RAL colours, and coloured concrete options help installations blend into landscapes.

Products - Memorial Bases.

What standards do JKH memorial bases meet?.

Foundation slabs and related memorial bases are manufactured to BS 8415:2018, aligned with BRAMM/NAMM guidance

What sizes and options are available?

Standard 3″ thick slabs (with 1–3 vase holes) and made-to-order 2″/3″ slabs; saddles for memorials and war grave saddles (e.g., 35″ × 15″ × 6″) supplied typically in pallet quantities.

Do you offer delivery with forklift offloading?

Yes—JKH’s fleet provides nationwide delivery, with FORS Silver compliance and crane/forklift offloading available when requested.

Design& Specification Support.

Where can I access BIM/CAD technical drawings?

Register via product pages (e.g., headwalls) for access to JKH’s design portal, offering extensive BIM/CAD files and technical drawings.

Are products listed on NBS Source for specification?

Yes—JKH partners with NBS Source, where specifiers can browse products, case studies and third-party certifications in NBS standardised formats.

What capabilities do you have in-house?

Design (SolidWorks/AutoCAD), steel fabrication, concrete casting across a 250,000 sq ft facility—with more than 150,000 headwalls produced to date.

Which management systems do you hold?

JKH operates ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 management systems.

Delivery, Lead Times & Logistics.

What are typical lead times?

Stock items: 2–3 days dispatch; made-to-order products typically 2–4 weeks (check product page for current availability).

Stock items: 2–3 days dispatch; made-to-order products typically 2–4 weeks (check product page for current availability).

Yes—crane/offloading support is available on request; many vehicles are equipped for forklift offloading.
